Important Notice Regarding the Coronavirus

Due to increasing number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in our state we will begin implementing the following changes effective Tuesday 3/24/2020.

We have been thinking and praying about how to protect our employees and customers. As a family owned business, we have the privilege of having relationships with customer and employees that go back generations.  We will adapt and continue to do the best we can to make sure we can continue to provide the best service possible.

While nothing is perfect and the situation is fluid, we have decided to try the following:

  • We will remain open for business, with our normal winter business hours of 8am to 5pm Tuesday through Friday. All business will be conducted via phone to our main number 907-376-4784.
  • There will be no customers or vendors allowed in any buildings on our site including our offices, our retail store, our warehouse and our shop.
  • If there is anything that you need from our store please call us at 907-376-4784 and we will help to make sure we can get it for you.

Cold Weather Concrete – Really Really Cold!

Very Cold Morning.

Cold weather concrete requires planing and teamwork.

It is -20 Fahrenheit at the start if the day.

The trucks are running and warming up.

The customer reports its warmer at the job site than here at the plant.

When it is cold like this a lot of things happen behind the scenes.  The mechanics “babysit” the trucks to keep them “happy”.  Diesel engines are fine once they are running.  The challenge in cold weather is starting them after they have been sitting all night at twenty below zero.

Super hot water is being created by our giant boiler. When the hot water is mixed with the cold aggregates and cement, the concrete will be just the right temperature.

Once the customer gives us the go ahead to send concrete,  we will pre-heat the trucks drums by filling them with hot water.  The hot water will heat all the metal so that it does not freeze the concrete or slow down the set by making it too cold. Closed Christmas & New Years Weeks

We will be closed for Christmas and New Years Weeks from Monday December 23rd and re-opening with normal winter business hours Tuesday January 7th.

Fall at Valley Block & Concrete

Fall at Valley Block & Concrete the days are getting shorter.

The end of Fall is here and Winter is right around the corner.

There is a big push by everyone to get things done before the snow flies.

Thanks to our very own Pete for carving this pumpkin for us.

Closed Labor Day Weekend

Closed Labor Day Weekend.

We will be closed from Saturday 8/31, Sunday 9/1 and Monday 9/2 for Labor Day. We will be reopening at 8 am on Tuesday 9/3.

Have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend. Rest up and get ready for the big end of season push. Where in the world has the summer gone?

Closed July 4th Weekend

Closed for an Extended 4th of July Weekend.

We are very grateful for the busy year we have had so far.

Everyone (that includes all you that are reading this) have been working very hard.

In order to allow our employees an extended weekend with their families, we will be closed Thursday July 4th, Friday July 5th, Saturday July 6th and as always Sunday July 7th.

We will be reopening on Monday July 8th.
